Arrive at Kilimanjaro — welcome and briefing
We meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and drive you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, ready to rest after the journey. Later your lead guide visits for a full briefing on the Marangu route: the huts where you will sleep, the meals your cook will prepare, the daily health checks and the slow pace that matters so much at altitude. You check your kit together and arrange to hire anything missing. Dinner at your own arrangement and an early night set you up for the start of the climb.
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is the international arrival point for this journey; the transfer to Arusha takes about an hour. Arusha is a busy northern Tanzanian town beneath Mount Meru, whose outline may appear between the clouds. Your hotel stay includes breakfast; dinner this evening is at your own arrangement. Keep essential medicines and tomorrow’s walking clothes in your hand luggage in case checked bags are delayed. January to early March and June to October usually offer the best trekking conditions, although mountain weather can change quickly. Tonight, organise your daypack and tell your guide about any health concerns before the climb begins.
