Arusha to Chemka — a spring-water oasis
After your own breakfast, meet your guide at the agreed Arusha pickup point and travel towards the Kikuletwa countryside. The final rougher stretch leads through villages and dry-country scenery before a pocket of green reveals Chemka's spring-fed pools. Allow about 2–3 hours for the outward journey. Your guide introduces the site and checks local conditions before you decide whether to enter the water. You can just as happily enjoy the shade, reflections and relaxed atmosphere from dry land. Pause for the picnic lunch agreed before booking, then spend an unhurried afternoon beside the pools, paying attention to slippery edges and other visitors. Later, return along the country tracks and main road to your Arusha hotel.
Chemka, also called Kikuletwa Springs, is often advertised as hot springs, but this is not a steaming thermal bath. Clear water can disguise depth, and currents need assessing locally, so confidence in a swimming pool should not replace caution here. Swimming is optional and subject to conditions; rope swings are not a promised activity. Bring swimwear if you wish, a towel and footwear suitable for wet surfaces. Children need close supervision beside the water, while non-swimmers should discuss suitable flotation support with the guide before considering entry.
